Age Concern Visiting Service

The Age Concern Visiting Service is a befriending service that matches older people who are lonely or socially isolated with volunteers who are keen to spend time getting to know them.

The volunteer visitors are police-checked and trained, and spend about an hour each week sharing conversation and companionship over a cup of tea with their older friends.

Matches are made carefully, on the basis of personality, shared interests, cultural needs, and location.

Having a visitor can make a real difference to the health and happiness of the client being visited as well as the volunteer who is visiting.

Who can make a referral?

Anyone can make a referral to the Age Concern Visiting Service, just be sure to ask the permission of the person you are referring. Even the older person can contact us for a self-referral if they wish to access the service.

But please be respectful of our volunteers as they are not trained medical support workers. Nor are they cleaners or personal shoppers.

We’ll find the right visitor

Once we have the referral details, our staff will visit the older person to learn more about their interests, likes and dislikes.

It may take a while to find the right match, so please be patient while we locate and train the right visitor. Once a match is found we will facilitate the introductions and check all is well.
